The initial thought was a sprained MCL, suggesting he'd miss a few weeks.

Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice's season is over before it began.

The Redskins said Guice, who was taken in the second round of the National Football League draft out of LSU, was expected to make a full recovery and was looking forward to playing in 2019.

Prior to Guice's injury, Washington's running back situation was in a bit of a "three-for-all" in terms of who will see the majority of touches behind veteran Chris Thompson, a 5-foot-8, 195-pound back better utilized in the passing game. Now there's a fresh wound - and a massive one - early in the 2018 season.

Contrast that with Rob Gronkowski's restructured deal from a year ago, which allowed the tight end to earn an extra $5.5 million by reaching certain totals in one of three statistical categories or by securing first-team All-Pro honors.

Before his injury, Guice was having a strong training camp, taking snaps with the first unit and displaying the same "violent" running style that he was known for. Washington had 23 players on injured reserve.

Brady's current contract runs through the 2019 season, and Schefter's report did not indicate that current talks would include an extension. Payne has made progress and is expected to return soon.

Tom Brady, Quarterback, New England Patriots, and Founder of TB12, speaks at the Milken Institute 21st Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, U.S., April 30, 2018. Tight end Manasseh Garner suffered a torn ACL, while wide receiver Trey Quinn (stomach) and defensive end Matt Ioannidis (leg) were also hurt.
