Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben stresses the importance of keeping Jerome Boateng

Jerome Boateng trained with Bayern Munich on Thursday as speculation continued to swirl around the Germany defender's future.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and particularly their German coach Thomas Tuchel are reported to have an interesting in signing Boateng. Negotiations between the player's management and PSG are taking place behind the scenes, reports Xinhua news agency.

But with the Premier League's transfer deadline at 17:00 BST today, Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho has told reporters that he does not expect any further incomings at Old Trafford before the close of business. However, several star names of the Bayern team are demanding that Boateng stays.

The report also claimed that Bayern will be happy to offload Boateng after growing exhausted of his ill-discipline in recent seasons.

United are understood to have had a £22.5million offer rejected though the club maintain they only wanted a loan.

On August 24, they will take on league runners-up TSG Hoffenheim in their 2018-19 Bundesliga curtain-raiser.

Bayern however would be able to sell the centre-back to a continental club, such as PSG, until the end of the month.

"For me Jerome is one of the best central defenders in the world", the Dutch winger said.

Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer said he would miss Boateng and French winger Franck Ribery underlined the sentiment: "I hope he stays with us".

Should he move, Boateng would become the second big-name player to depart Bayern this off-season following Arturo Vidal's surprise switch to Barcelona. "He is one of the world's best, and we need his physical presence on the pitch".
