Today Samsung announced its first smart speaker with the Bixby virtual voice assistant, the Galaxy Home The announcement was made at the company's Unpacked event in Brooklyn, New York, alongside the Galaxy Note 9 phone. The new, Bixby-powered smart speaker was revealed on Thursday 9 August in NY alongside the the hotly anticipated Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy Watch.

A substantial amount of buzz has been generated regarding the upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

Geekbench 4 measures overall performance.

Under the hood is Samsung's in-house 10nm Exynos 9810 or Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 CPU (depending on region), paired with either 6GB or 8GB RAM depending on whether you pick up the 128GB or 512GB model.

When I reached out to Samsung to ask about the Note 9's pricing, a representative told me: "We are doing things differently this time and aligned to one price across carriers".

OnePlus 6 only costs $579. Samsung also supplies the organic light-emitting diode screens that go into premium devices such as the iPhone X. Samsung cleverly included inductive charging in the S Pen, so it'll fill up when docked in the phone.

It makes sense, until you think about the excitement the launch has generated around the globe (as Samsung has spent big to make sure that it's being advertised everywhere, the link to the live stream promoted all over the globe).

All this together corroborates the point: the Note 9 isn't the right choice for the average user.

The company hopes to break through its sales slump with the new Note, after it reported last month that its flagship Galaxy S9 phone missed sales targets. That's just the base model, though. There's a much larger battery, likely improved screen technology, an improved camera, a more capable S Pen, more capacity as standard and stereo speaker for your money.

The Galaxy Watch comes in a silver 46mm version and 42mm option in black or rose gold.

USA carrier Verizon Communications Inc said the new device will be available for pre-order from August 10, with the 128 gigabyte model priced at $999.99 for the and 512GB model at $1,249.99. It's also tying its Watch more closely to its Galaxy line, contrasting with the Gear line. If you want the spiffing 512GB version, that'll be £1099.

The Apple Watch may dominate the smartwatch market, but Samsung is finally clapping back with the health-focused LTE Galaxy Watch. That's not quite as friendly to petite wrists as the 38mm Apple Watch, but the Galaxy Watch's round face could make it look more like an oversized timepiece and less like a smartphone on your wrist.
