Israel Seizes Swedish Activist Ship Bound For Gaza

On Saturday, the Israeli army said an aircraft had fired at "a terrorist squad" launching "arson balloons" at Israel.

"The demands of Ship to Gaza are that the ship with its crew and cargo will be returned to the site of the boarding, and that they will be allowed to go in peace through worldwide and Palestinian waters in accordance to global law", they said in a statement.

The ministry said in a statement late Sunday that Ahmed al-Ayeda, 17, had been in critical condition since being shot east of Bureij in the central Gaza Strip on March 30 - the first day of mass border protests which have continued weekly since then.

Israel has shut the Kerem Shalom crossing, Gaza's sole commercial access point, as a punitive measure over the launch of incendiary balloons by Palestinian activists from the seaside enclave into Israel, banning all deliveries except food and medicine.

The Egyptian official said Cairo would not let its facilities or territory in the Sinai desert, bordering Gaza, be used to relieve Israel of keeping the Palestinian economy alive.

UN-led efforts are reportedly underway to mediate a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Hamas resistance group who have fought three wars since 2008.

Israel and Hamas came close to serious conflict recently when months of border violence escalated.

"I will present my "artificial island" plan to cut all civil connection between Israel and Gaza today", Katz continued, referring to the planned cabinet discussion of the ceasefire.

According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, thousands protested in the city of Tel Aviv and other Arab towns in Israel against Israel's racist recent nation-state law.

"The IDF (Israel Defence Forces) clarified to the ship´s passengers that they are violating the legal naval blockade and that any humanitarian merchandise can be transferred to Gaza through the (Israeli) Port of Ashdod", an Israeli military statement said.

More than two million Palestinians are packed into the Gaza Strip, which suffers deep economic hardship.
