Kepa, 23, joins from Athletic Bilbao after Chelsea paid his release clause to bring him to the Premier League.

Courtois did not report for Chelsea training this week in an attempt to force a move away from Stamford Bridge, prompting the Blues to scramble around for a replacement and swiftly identify Kepa as their preferred target.

Kepa made his global debut for Spain in November, keeping a clean sheet in a friendly win over Costa Rica, and was named to the Spain squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer, though he didn't play.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Chelsea will miss Thibaut Courtois.

"I saw (Kepa) one year ago, my first impression was that he is a very good goalkeeper, very young but very good", said the Italian coach after his team drew 0-0 with Olympique Lyonnais in a friendly.

Since joining, Navas has won three Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup trophies, two UEFA Super Cups, a LaLiga and Supercopa de Espana title.

Arrizabalaga, who only signed a new seven-year deal with Athletic in January, becomes Maurizio Sarri's second high profile signing since taking charge, following in the footsteps of midfielder Jorginho, who followed Sarri from Napoli for around £50m.

Los Blancos have signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea in a deal which will see Mateo Kovacic heading to London for a season-long loan.

A statement on Athletic's website read: "Kepa Arrizabalaga has met the requirements for the valid unilateral termination of the work contract that linked him to Athletic Club".

The Golden Glove victor will then undergo medicals on Thursday and will be presented as a Real Madrid player at 1:00 PM local time.

However, speculation over that transfer has cooled in recent weeks and it appears the 27-year-old will begin his seventh season with Chelsea when their Premier League campaign starts at Huddersfield Town this weekend.

Chelsea are reportedly close to securing the signature of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid.
