Responding to Saturday's rally at an OH high school gym meant to boost the prospects of Republican Troy Balderson in a tightly contested special election scheduled for Tuesday, a top GOP operative confided "Today is a ideal example" of Trump's failings as an advocate for candidates.

He went on a screed against illegal immigration and basked in cheers as the crowd chanted a campaign rallying cry: "Build the wall, build the wall".

And Trump touted his supporters as "forgotten no more", saying that they, and he, were the nation's true "elite".

"I think [Trump and his political advisers] think they are firing up the base", at such rallies, added Kasich, who was among several establishment party leaders Trump defeated for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

Trump critic Susan Lindquist says she's trying to change one person's mind at a time about the president, who she says is destroying the country. "And it's driving them insane".

Trump also brought to the stage Ohio Representative Jim Jordan, "a tough cookie".

Trump relished playing the role of Republican kingmaker, bragging how the GOP candidates he's opposed, like Rep. Mark Sanford of SC, have lost. Trump said. "What a great defender he's been, what courage". Troy Balderson, the GOP candidate running in a special election this coming Tuesday.

Hundreds of people are slowly making their way into an OH high school ahead of a rally headlined by President Donald Trump.

The Ohio rally was Trump's third of the week and he has pledged to accelerate his pace further as the midterms approach.

In an interview on ABC News' "This Week", the Republican governor predicted a narrow win for Troy Balderson in the contest with Democrat Danny O'Connor - but blamed the tight race on "the chaos that seems to surround [President] Donald Trump" that's "unnerved a lot of people".
