Rizzo says Harper will not be dealt

Selling off Bryce Harper now would net the Nationals something in return but is it really worth

Selling off Bryce Harper now would net the Nationals something in return but is it really worth

The Washington Nationals should trade Bryce Harper, but not for the reason you might think.

Harper has been the face of the Washington Nationals franchise since arriving in 2012.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox reports the Nationals have been "sending out feelers" on Harper to gauge possible interest from other teams.

Despite our best hopes that Bryce Harper being on the block would be a fun-as-heck rumor to track today (even if the Cubs didn't make sense as a suitor), it sounds like the Nationals are making it very official that he's not going anywhere.

Harper, 25, is in the past year of his contract and will be one of the biggest free agents on the market after this season.

Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports that one Major League Baseball team heard that the Nationals had a Bryce Harper trade "lined up", but the ownership pulled the plug. This website is not intended for users located within the European Economic Area. "I believe in this team", Washington's GM Mike Rizzo told the Washington Post's Chelsea Janes on Tuesday.

The Indians have been in contact with the Nationals about Harper, but they are reluctant to include 23-year-old right-hander Shane Bieber, MLB.com reported. If any team wants to push all-in with its chips to chase a World Series title this year, at least they now know for sure who to call.

The MLB trade deadline is set for 4 p.m. E.T. Stay tuned.
