Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is a step closer to leaving Old Trafford after Napoli confirmed they have submitted a bid for the Italy global.

He made just 17 appearances in all competitions last term and has fallen behind Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw in the pecking order.

As with all English clubs, the earlier close to the transfer window this summer is causing United problems and there is a decent chance they will not be able to force Leicester to sell Maguire and will not be able to find a buyer for Darmian either.

"I have asked for Darmian on loan", De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss.

De Laurentiis says Napoli are weighing up their options.

But he added that Napoli also have alternatives lined up: "We are looking at six profiles". "But [also] on our list of [desired] right-backs is [Benjamin] Heinrichs from Bayer Leverkusen".

He said: "Yes, that's what I want [to leave] but we will see what happens because we don't know".

Napoli have now turned their attention towards Darmian and are expected to approach Manchester United for a loan deal.

It would mean United will not receive a fee for a player they spent £12.7m on in 2015 when he arrived in England from Torino.

With manager Jose Mourinho revealing the full-back wants a move away from United, Darmian has himself confirmed that he is seeking pastures new. That's been made pretty categorical to me in the last couple of days so you know that plays into the thinking of Leicester a little bit.

Martial revealed the news on Instagram with an image of the boy's feet with the caption: "Thank you Lord for giving me a second lovely child in good health".

"It has been a hard decision [to want to leave]. That's why I spoke with the manager and also with the club about my future".
