Mourinho is at loggerheads with United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over potential new signings, his team have looked desperately poor in their first four pre-season friendlies, and latest reports claim the Red Devils' squad feel uncomfortable in his presence right now.

"I am confident I will get one, but I think two I am not going to get, which is not a drama", Mourinho told beIN SPORTS. However, Mourinho has been heavily criticized by a lot of pundits and even the United faithful for the negative and defensive tactics that he prioritizes in most of his games.

"In every pre-season it happens the same with every club, which is the manager wants more".

"His condition was not good when he was back", he said after the player returned to the squad from holiday. He is the only one who is here and the poor man is trying his best with the frustration of somebody who wants more.

Brazilian midfielder Fred is expected to be thrust into the starting XI, but Mourinho has said that the team "is not going to be very different" from the one that ended the 2017-18 season.

United start their Premier League campaign with Leicester City's visit to Old Trafford next Friday.

Mourinho also says the new Premier League season should start a week later - in line with the rest of Europe.

Thus far he has bought three players including Brazilian worldwide Fred, but Mourinho is keen to have two new faces in the squad come the opening match with Leicester on Friday week.

And I wait to see if it's possible to have one of these players. "He's come in even after the Liverpool [defeat] and spoken very highly of what we've have given as a team and as a unit".

"I agree totally with the window closing at the same time as the Premier League starts".

And Mourinho is angry at United's failure to deliver all the transfer targets he identified at the start of the summer.

"We start the game with nearly half the players who are not even going to belong to our squad on August 9 [transfer deadline day]".

Mourinho was the man to take Willian to Stamford Bridge in 2013 and he proved to be an excellent signing having provided 44 goals and 39 assists in his 236 appearances to help the Blues win 2 Premier League titles and 3 domestic cups.
