Two of the victims were men.

Later that evening, another shooting was reported in a different part of New Orleans, police said it is unclear right now if the two events were connected.

The shooting happened on Claiborne Avenue, northwest of the French Quarter. "We need them to know that they can trust us and come to us".

Three of the seven injured people were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center's trauma center, police said. A lot of people we know saw what happened, heard what happened. Harrison also implored the community not to take action on their own.

Crimestoppers can be reached at 504.822.1111 or through the website. "We have plenty of experienced people who are out here tonight".

In the 2800 block of Louisiana Avenue, crime tape was in place at a house and officers stood on the front porch. Police say the other six are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects were allegedly wearing hooded sweatshirts and walked up on a crowd gathered at a daiquiri shop and began shooting.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in a statement that the latest burst of violence is "unacceptable".

"I speak for everyone in our city when I say we are disgusted and infuriated, and we have had more than enough", she wrote. Three more lives - gone. It has to end. "It doesn't get more personal".

One victim was in critical condition Sunday morning.

A law enforcement source told WWL-TV that the Special Operations Division of the NOPD has been put on alert to guard against potential retaliation.
