Eleven people are dead and six remain missing after an amphibious duck boat with tourists on board sank in a heavy storm near Branson, Missouri on Thursday.

Winds as high as 60 miles per hour were reported in the area at the time of the accident.

When the storm seemed imminent he had rushed to the lake to urge guests and boats to evacuate, as rough waves began slamming into his resort pier.

Kevan Moniri, who was on the scooter with Warmuth, recalls seeing the duck boat accelerate behind them when a light turned green, then realizing the driver did not see them.

"People are supposed to be able to go out for an outing and have a good time". He said it is unknown how many individuals are still in the water.

Duck amphibious vehicles are used on tourist sightseeing tours around the world and have been involved in a number of fatal accidents in the past two decades.

The incident occurred at Table Rock Lake in Stone County, Missouri, and involved the "Ride the Ducks" vessel.

"Words can not convey how profoundly our hearts are breaking", the company said.
