England coasts to ODI series win over India behind Joe Root's century

Jason Roy faces fitness test ahead of England's ODI decider with India

Having set a target of 323 for India, thanks to a century by Joe Root, MS Dhoni was heavily criticized for his 59-ball 37 which consisted of just two fours and no sixes. If Roy misses out, Hampshire captain James Vince could be in line for his first ODI appearance in almost two years, although Monday saw England call up Kent's Sam Billings as additional batting cover for the series finale in Leeds.

This was Root's second unbeaten century in successive innings after his 113 not out helped England level the three-match contest with an 86-run win at Lord's.

England pacer Liam Plunkett, has gained one place and is now 20th, Mark Wood is on a career-high 26th ranking after rising two places and David Willey has jumped 11 places to claim 31st position.

Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has again sent the Twitter running wild on rumours after he sought the match ball at the end of the last third ODI against England in Headingley.

That England match with India starts at 12.30pm on Tuesday.

The normally fluent Rohit Sharma, who scored a superb century during India´s eight-wicket win in the series-opener at Trent Bridge, struggled to make two off 18 balls, his innings ending when he flicked Willey to Wood at deep square leg.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes back into the side as Umesh Yadav misses out.

It will be all to play for when Eoin Morgan's England take on Virat Kohli-led India in the third and final ODI at Headingley here on Tuesday.

Dhawan was run out for 44 by a brilliant piece of fielding from Ben Stokes and India lost wickets at regular intervals. "I looked at the three balls I faced and got out to - one thing that's very easy to do is over-analyse things, over-think things", Root explained.

A disbelieving Kohli walked off and Suresh Raina (one) then turned Rashid low to Rashid´s Yorkshire team-mate Joe Root at leg slip.

New medium-pacer Shardul Thakur took the only bowler's wicket, taking out Jonny Bairstow in the fifth over after a rapid 30. Virat Kohli is with him when he asks for it. Instead Root and Morgan held back waiting to see if the ball would go for four.
