The Crown First Look: Olivia Colman Is Queen Elizabeth II

Season one and two of The Crown are now available to stream on Netflix.

Eight months into our Crown withdrawal, we finally have the first look at the new season, and it comes in the form of a pale pink-clad Olivia Colman tentatively sipping her tea.

There she is, in all her royal highness.

Claire Foy skyrocketed to superstardom as she expertly took on the role of Queen Elizabeth II for the first 2 seasons, helping the show earn BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Emmy nominations. As a result, we're already 20 years into Elizabeth's reign. The overhauled cast includes Tobias Menzies as the queen's husband, Prince Philip; Helena Bonham Carter as the queen's sister, Princess Margaret; and the recently announced Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones, Margaret's husband. Instead, The Crown is taking a new approach: re-casting everyone. 'You can't ask someone to act middle-aged. 'The feelings we all have as 50-year-olds are different than the feelings we all have as 30-year-olds'. Picking up roughly where the second season ended, it covers the period of 1964 through the early 1970s. "I'm basically going to rewatch every episode and copy her!" Who will Netflix cast to play the current Commander-In-Chief?

The image doesn't give away a lot, save for giving Crown fans our first peek at Coleman in Queen Elizabeth's iconic hairstyle and pearls as she enjoys a nice cuppa.

Season 3 is expected to premiere in 2019.
