Papa John's founder resigns as chairman after apologizing for racial slur

The University of Louisville is removing Papa John's from its football stadium's name after a report the pizza chain's founder used a racial slur.

Really good, it turns out, because Schnatter stepped down as Papa John's chairman this week after using a racial slur in a conference call.

The Mariners had a deal with the chain in which if the team scored five runs, a Papa John's pizza was half-off the next day.

This isn't the only outcome of Schnatter's racist remarks.

Bendapudi said she is trying to differentiate between Schnatter and his company, noting multiple times how many people who work at Papa John's and how cutting ties completely could impact them. "Mr. Schnatter's derogatory and insensitive comments are not at all reflective of the values of our organization".

"I said it, and it's wrong", he said.

Bendapudi said the name changes were effective immediately but gave no timetable on the removal of the signs from the stadium.

In a statement released by Papa John's, Schnatter said reports attributing use of "inappropriate and hurtful" language to him were true.

The Minnesota Twins have "indefinitely suspended" sales of Papa John's pizza from their activation at Target Field, according to a team spokesman.

Sports teams are also pulling the plug on partnerships with Papa John's in wake of Schnatter's comments. The guy who a year ago was blaming kneeling National Football League players for his company's laggard earnings? He said the comment was taken out of context but that he nevertheless felt "sick" about the incident.

"In response to the reprehensible remarks made by Papa John's founder and owner, the New York Yankees are suspending their relationship with the company", the tweet said. The company's shares, which had fallen almost 5 percent Wednesday, rebounded 11 percent Thursday after the company announced Schnatter's resignation as chairman. As part of that process, we will establish a process for communicating progress against transparent goals to everyone in our Papa John's family.

Schnatter's name will also be removed from the university's Center for Free Enterprise at its business school, university spokesman John Karman confirmed to The Post.

"Never in my life [will I buy Papa John's pizza again]", Jones told us in NYC ...
