Man Found Dead After 11-Hour Standoff In Sherman Oaks; Shots Fired

Police spoke with the suspect, a man in his 20s, face-to-face and through a cellphone before he fired at them from inside the building, officials said. Police later confirmed that the suspect appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and was not struck by any gunfire from the officers. Honeycutt was just 27 years old. He played just 24 games in the National Basketball Association across two seasons in Sacramento before he was traded in February 2013 to the Houston Rockets, who waived him a month later.

Honeycutt played for the Bruins from 2009 to 2011.

An officer at the Los Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Division told Yahoo Sports on Saturday morning that because the case is still under investigation, he could not provide further details or confirm the involvement of Honeycutt. Police reported Honeycutt then barricaded himself inside a residence for hours.

According to the report, the suspect's mother called police after her son started acting erratically. At least 30 residents surrounding the home were evacuated as a precaution. According to a report from ABC-7, the player was found dead after an altercation with the LAPD. "LAFD responded & pronounced the male dead at scene", Rubenstein said. He spent time with EuroCup team BC Khimki (2014-15) and EuroLeague's Khimki Moscow Region (2015-16, 17-18) and Anadolu Efes (2016-17). The Sacramento Kings drafted him with the 35th pick in the 2011 draft. He never played for the Rockets, and in August, 2013, he moved his playing career overseas, starting with Ironi Nes Ziona in Israel.
