Michael Avenatti Posts Judge’s Ruling Denying Michael Cohen’s Emergency Request

The deadline extension comes as Cohen, under severe financial pressure, has chose to split with his current team and hire new lawyers, according to a person familiar with the case. Instead, Avenatti will have an opportunity to respond to Cohen's motion with a brief on Daniels' behalf, and Cohen's attorney will be able to file a reply to Avenatti's response.

"Given the lack of rigor with which Mr. Cohen apparently conducted himself, I shudder to think what was so sensitive that even Michael Cohen thought, 'I better shred this, '" Epner said. Cohen at first denied the payment but later he and the POTUS acknowledged that Trump eventually paid back Cohen for personally taking care of the issue.

But I've always liked Michael. The lawyers designate material they believe is protected by attorney-client privilege or that includes highly personal information, such as medical records.

In a Thursday night filing, Blakely said Avenatti had discussed the Daniels case in at least 121 television appearances and 439 tweets, threatening to turn it into a "media circus" and deprive Cohen of his right to a fair trial.

Federal prosecutors investigating U.S. President Donald Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen have extracted more than 700 pages of messages sent using encrypted programs like WhatsApp and Signal on phones seized from Cohen, according to a court filing on Friday.

Cohen has not been criminally charged, but a source familiar with the investigation told Reuters in April that the federal prosecutors are investigating him for possible bank and tax fraud, and for possible campaign law violations connected with a payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and matters concerning foreign support of Trump's campaign.

'Mr. Avenatti's actions are mainly driven by his seemingly unquenchable thirst for publicity, ' it added.

In the footnote of the order, the judge admonished Cohen's team for filing the emergency request.

Cohen had filed an ex parte application for a temporary restraining order against Avenatti.

Prosecutors from the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of NY said in the filing that they conferred with Cohen's lawyers and that the parties jointly proposed a June 25 deadline for Cohen's team to review the newly produced documents for privilege designations.

Otero declined to grant Cohen emergency relief, setting a briefing schedule Friday that begins in late June.
