Germany midfielder Toni Kroos said Thursday (Jun 14) that he doesn't think the sacking of Julen Lopetegui as coach on the eve of the World Cup will significantly harm Spain's chances in Russian Federation.

Spain's World Cup preparations are in chaos.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez called the Spanish football federation's reaction to the club's signing of Lopetegui "disproportionate, unfair and without precedent in the world of football in similar cases".

"I would have liked Rubiales to have acted differently".

"I'm sure this will, in time, make us stronger".

Lack of respect for Ramos: "I am very calm". He seems a top trainer and that makes it harder to make the decision.

Global highlights: David was part of the 2010 Spain squad that won the World Cup so has been there, done that.

Rubliales quickly replaced Lopetegui with the director of football, Fernando Hierro.

There had been fears that the announcement of Lopetegui's appointment by Real could open up old divisions between the Madrid and Barcelona factions in the Spain squad.

There were initially reports that the Spain team had tried to fight to keep their manager in place however according to Spanish newspaper SPORT only captain Sergio Ramos spoke up in defence of his soon to be club boss.

The 51-year-old was officially unveiled at the Bernabeu on Thursday evening and Perez was quick to criticise the actions of Rubiales, who he accused of showing "disrespect" to Madrid.

The players took that message on board and stayed faithful to Lopetegui's request. "I came here aged 18 to play for Castilla, had the good fortune to experience what madridismo is, the values, the loyalty".

"When they found out, we had one of best training sessions of whole week", he said.

"The circumstances are what they are and from now on I accept the responsibility bravely, it can't be any other way".

Julen was part of everything in this World Cup, the qualifying, regardless of anything, Spain have to go above everything.

"We can not alter two years of hard work in the coming days - from now until the Portugal match, we don't have the ability to change much".

The opportunity now falls to Hierro, who went out of his way to reiterate that very little was going to change. But a day later, Spain chief Luis Rubiales reacted to what he saw as a betrayal by immediately firing the coach just two days before Spain's opening game.
