Conor McGregor reveals he almost returned to UFC in May

Earlier this week, interim UFC welterweight title challenger Colby Covington made legendary former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones the subject of his never-ending stream of vitriol and smack talk.

Conor did not explicitly mention who was his opponent for that card, but the plan, as reported by Ariel Helwani was to fight Rafael dos Anjos (RDA) for the interim welterweight title.

UFC star Tyron Woodley is eager to get back in the cage and clean out the welterweight division as soon as possible.

"Since my first fight with Tarec, I think I was able to take improvements into the fight with Neil and then with Robbie", said the talented southpaw, who will be making his 25th appearance in the Octagon this weekend in Chicago. He crowded dos Anjos with forward movement from bell to bell.

During an global media call last week, dos Anjos referred to Covington as a "worse version of Conor McGregor".

Colby Covington is one of the most controversial fighters in the UFC.

But if it weren't for the bus incident in Brooklyn things could have been very different, and McGregor's one-that-got-away fight with RDA may have finally come to fruition.

Upon hearing the call out, Woodley took to Twitter and fired off some of his own shots at Covington and urged the UFC and UFC President Dana White to get his adversary ready for a fight. When I'm ready to fight, now it's time to fight. McGregor could have potentially won a title in a third class in the fight, which no UFC fighter has accomplished. Over the last two years, "Chaos" has collected five consecutive victories, grinding out wins over Max Griffin, Dong Hyun Kim and Demian Maia to climb towards the summit of the welterweight ranks. When he was told that he would fight me, he said, 'Dos Anjos, just in December - only December'. Dos Anjos barely catches Covington with a knee strike before getting taken down, Dos Anjos gets up and separates from Covington.

"It's kind of frustrating because I beat the former champ, and I was hoping to fight (Woodley)", dos Anjos said. Whoever they got for me to fight at this time, come get this work. He looks renewed in his quest for another UFC Title, and is riding a 3 fight win streak since losing to Tony Ferguson.

"I have to win for me - for my family and for myself".
