Israeli army kills Palestinian youth in occupied West Bank

A Palestinian man was shot dead for throwing a stone at an Israeli soldier during a confrontation in the village of Nabi Saleh in the West Bank.

The Israeli military said Palestinian militants had attacked its troops along the border with gunfire and a grenade.

The Palestinian, identified as Ezzeddin Abdul-Hafith Tamimi, 21, was shot by soldiers, who were less than two meters away from him, and logged three live rounds in his neck.

"During an initial examination of the incident that took place on June 1st, 2018, in which a 22-year-old Palestinian woman was killed, it was found that a small number of bullets were fired during the incident, and that no shots were deliberately or directly aimed towards her", the IDF Spokesperson said in a statement.

In a statement, the military said more than 10 Palestinians tried to disrupt a force carrying out arrests in the village of Nabi Saleh and that one of them threw a rock at a soldier, striking him in the head. "He was treated at the scene and he was later declared dead".

The Israeli military said it has adopted the use of drones to intercept some 500 kites and flaming balloons.

The Palestinian Information Ministry, in a statement, said: "The execution of Tamimi in cold blood, with three bullets at close range, proves how much our people are in need of global protection against the Israeli war machine".

Thousands of Palestinians are to join on Friday afternoon the anti-Israel rallies and protests organized by the Highest Commission for the Great March of Return in eastern Gaza Strip, close to the border with Israel. Thousands of Palestinians are streaming toward the fence separating Gaza from Israel for a protest against the decade-long blockade of their territory.

Residents of the Palestinian village often hold protests against Israel that end in violent clashes with the IDF.

Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed it to its capital, a move not recognized by most of the global community.

Shooting medics is a bit more embarrassing, particularly a photogenic medic like Najjar who was in a lot of media coverage of paramedics risking their lives to treat wounded protesters. US -brokered peace talks collapsed in 2014.
