African Pastor killed by deadly 20ft crocodile while baptising church worshippers

A crocodile killed a pastor in Ethiopia over the weekend while he was baptizing followers at a lake.

The crocodile dragged the pastor into Lake Abaya - situated in the southern city of Arba Minch - as those with him watched on, the Ethiopian news site Borkena reported.

A baptism in Ethiopia has gone horribly wrong, with a crocodile attacking and killing the pastor during a waterside service.

The Lonely Planet warns the crocodiles can be aggressive towards people and animals because the lake has few fish.

However, they used fishing nets to prevent the crocodile from taking the pastor's body into the lake, the police added. "All of a sudden, a crocodile jumped out of the lake and grabbed the pastor", resident Ketema Kairo said.

Members of the congregation, as well as fishermen on the lake, attempted to rescue the clergyman - an nearly impossible task.

Baptisms in open waters are common in Africa and frequently occur by rivers or lakes, according to The Telegraph.
