People who need to wear glasses are more intelligent

Among the findings, the research showed the respondents to be the most intelligent were wearers of glasses.

If you are the proud owner of glasses, you will be able to wear them even more proudly.

The study has found a link between wearing glasses and cognitive function of people i.e., mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning and discovered that about 30% of the participants who need glasses and 32 per cent who have short-sightedness are found to be intelligent.

The researchers analysed data from more than 300,000 people who'd taken a variety of problem-solving tests created to evaluate their cognitive skills.

That's according to new research from the University of Edinburgh, which aimed to identify genes linked to higher intelligence and how they appear in relation to other genes.

The researchers identified 148 genomic regions that appeared to be linked to having better cognitive function - 58 of which have not been reported before. They were then given a general cognitive ability score, and researchers examined their DNA.

"Genetic studies of cognitive function are in their infancy, but this study is important in its sample size and power to detect novel associations between genes and traits", she said.

Talking to The Telegraph, Dr Gail Davies said that "The discovery of shared genetic effects on health outcomes and brain structure provides a foundation for exploring the mechanisms by which these differences influence thinking skills throughout a lifetime".

Lead researcher and CCACE director Professor Ian Deary said: "Less than a decade ago we were searching for genes related to intelligence with about 3,000 participants, and we found nearly nothing".

On the other hand, one must bear in mind that the study found simple correlations and that intelligence is largely subjective and hard to impossible to measure truly reliable.
