'Ingraham Angle' Highlights Passages From Starbucks' Racial Bias Handbook

Getty The sign for a Starbucks Coffee shop is seen in Washington, DC, April 17, 2018, following the company's announcement that they will close more than 8,000 USA stores on May 29 to conduct "racial-bias education" following the arrest of two black men in one of its cafes.

Roughly 8,000 Starbucks stores are closing at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday and reopening with normal hours on Wednesday.

Starbucks is closing its stores to conduct the training after the arrests of two black men in Philadelphia last month at one of its stores.

The announcement came after public uproar over the arrest of two black men at a Starbucks in Philadelphia who were waiting for a friend.

The company has settled privately with the men, and Starbucks has since announced that people can use its restrooms even if they are not buying anything.

Starbucks has since changed its policy to allow all members of the public to spend time or use the restroom in stores without making a purchase.

Starbucks' training is a mix of education, discussions of employees' personal experiences with bias, and instruction on how to apply learnings to Starbucks.

"We'll see you tomorrow" signs could be seen strewn up on the windows of the popular coffee chain. "I think just stressing the fact that we need to be accountable to other people is all about how we treat each other", he said. She was one of the first Starbucks employees to participate in the training today in Brooklyn. Which Starbucks locations are closed for bias training?

Americans in need of a Tall Matcha Green Tea Creme Frappucino will be left wanting today as Starbucks closes more than 8,000 cafes across the U.S. on Tuesday to conduct "unconscious bias training".

"I do feel like it is something that you can't teach someone", customer, Laasia Payne said.

Some have praised Starbucks, but others see it as a publicity stunt which will do little to end the persistent problem of racial profiling in the USA, our correspondent says. The company's training included a video on uncovering implicit bias that featured rapper Common. So they sat at a table and waited for the person with whom they were scheduled to meet.

"It doesn't make sense for me to have to be like 'Oh my gosh, this is how I'd treat Rebecca and this is how I should also treat Susan, ' but when it comes to how you treat me its totally different", Hornes said.

Starbucks corporate officials said it will share the racial-bias curriculum with the licensed stores.
