Cavs' LeBron James closes in on personal playoff scoring record

NBA fans had plenty of jokes for Jayson Tatum's thunderous poster dunk on LeBron

The Golden State Warriors reached the NBA Finals for the fourth consecutive year thanks to a 101-92 win over the Houston Rockets in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals. He has averaged 34 points, 9.2 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game in the playoffs.

The win was earned by the Warriors, who once again relied on an overwhelming performance in the third quarter to erase a first-half deficit and take a lead that they would never give up, but the game still felt as though it was the Rockets who beat themselves.

The Rockets missed an National Basketball Association playoff record 27 consecutive three-point attempts on Monday night, including a woeful 0-for-14 stretch in the third quarter.

The Warriors are 12-point favourites to win Thursday's Game 1, the largest spread in a Finals game since 1991, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

By now, it's common knowledge LeBron James has made it to eight consecutive NBA Finals - with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat. You've seen that throughout the course of the playoffs this year and you've seen it the last three years, that those guys are up for the challenge.

Durant has shone for the Warriors this term but he has hit back at talk that he does not have the same impact on his team as LeBron does - as he is considered to have carried his team through the play-offs. And the Rockets might have done it, too, had Chris Paul's hamstring not popped in the final seconds of Game 5 and forced him to the sideline for the rest of the series. While the Warriors suffered from the loss of Andre Iguodala - the 2015 Finals Most Valuable Player, injured in Game 3 of the series - his absence did not hurt them almost as much as Paul's did Houston. LeBron remains the "Beast of the East", heading to his eighth straight Finals - four with the Miami Heat, and the last four with Cleveland.

James, a 14-time All-Star and four-time MVP, nearly single-handedly carried Cleveland to the Finals. "They are clearly the favorite, without question, but the luxury of having the best player in the world in that situation, anything can happen".

The Warriors are better, and few outside James' native OH would bother to argue.
