Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, researched tactics used by other mass shooters, the sources said.

"About five or six days ago, she said, 'Mom, if there were a shooter in my school and they came in and shot, I would haunt him forever if he killed me.' So I think she [had] some kind of clue that something was going to happen".

Pagourtzis faces two felonies - capital murder and aggravated assault of a peace officer. He has not entered a plea.

"He kept making advances on her and she repeatedly told him no", she told the Los Angeles Times. She said her daughter had "stood up to him" the week before the shooting, but did not give further detail.

Another student killed, Jared Black, turned 17 last week and was supposed to have a birthday party Saturday.

Reese Tisdale, a police detective and the son of victim Cynthia Tisdale, said in a statement read by a spokeswoman that his mother worked as a substitute teacher "for the love of teaching and helping others". Teachers Glenda Ann Perkins and Cynthia Tisdale were also killed.

The people hospitalized included retired Houston police Officer John Barnes, who served as a resource officer at the school and confronted the gunman.

"He's had ups and downs".

Of the Pagourtzis family, Poehl said "it's been a very tough day for them". All students will return May 29, the district said.
