Gay Man Says Pope Told Him: 'God Made You Like This'

A GAY man who was abused by a Catholic priest has claimed that Pope Francis apologised for his part in the Catholic sexual abuse scandal and assured the Chilean victim that God had wants him to be gay.

Juan Carlos Cruz, the main whistleblower in Chile's clerical sex abuse and cover-up scandal, says he spoke to Francis about his homosexuality during their recent meetings at the Vatican.

The Vatican has yet to comment on the Pontiff's comments about homosexuality.

A spokesperson for the Vatican did not comment on the conversation Cruz had with the Pope.

"God loves you like this, '" Cruz told CNN about what Pope Francis told him. "God made you like this and he loves you,"' Cruz said.

Pope Francis voiced alarm Monday at the "hemorrhaging" of nuns and priests in Italy and Europe, saying God only knows how many seminaries, monasteries, convents and churches will close because fewer people are being called to lives of religious service.

He will be among some 120 cardinals under 80 worldwide and therefore eligible to participate in an eventual conclave to choose Francis' successor, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Japan said.

The Catholic Church teaches that because of original sin, all human beings are born with a wounded nature and sinful inclinations, which together are referred to as "concupiscence". While we have a way of celebrating our love through civil partnerships and same-sex marriage, we also need to keep working to allow LGBT people of faith to marry in church and declare their love in the eyes of God. Pope Francis didn't say anything that the Catholic Church hasn't said all along, but those who don't take the time to learn or understand the teachings tend not to report accurately on it.

"'Freedom of religion' does not mean the freedom to practice a religion which is false or a religion which contradicts the law of God", said the Cardinal, essentially restoring the Church's proper identity and role in the world among all religions.

"Life is life; things have to be accepted as they come".

Mr Cruz, who was abused by Chilean priest Fernando Karadima in the 1980s, said Francis had offered him a heartfelt apology.

While we've always been down with the social justice record of Pope Francis - stuff like fighting for the poor, calling out Donald Trump and urging humans to embrace a green agenda - his LGBTQ record is a bit more complicated.

Some 31 active Bishops, along with three who were retired, tendered their resignation to the Pope, insisting that it was time to place their fate "in the hands of the Holy Father so that he might freely decide for each one of us".
