The two countries are in the midst of a bitter diplomatic feud following the killing of about 60 Palestinians by Israeli forces during demonstrations along the Gaza border on Monday.

"We haven't been able to get that message out of how it is from our side, what we are defending - and the "winning picture" overwhelmingly, by a knockout, unfortunately, have been the graphics from the Palestinian side", Conricus said.

Previously Guatemala's embassy was in Herzliya, just north of Tel Aviv, like that of Paraguay, so far the only other mission with immediate plans to move to Jerusalem.

"How many Palestinians have to die before you take action?" The Palestinian Authority, which says Washington has abandoned its role as neutral arbiter in the 70-year-old conflict, withdrew its envoy from Washington.

White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, right, speaks as U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman listens during the opening ceremony of the new United States embassy in in Jerusalem, May 14, 2018.

On Wednesday the Palestinian Foreign Ministry announced the recall of its envoys in Romania, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic because those countries participated in the reception for the United States delegation that inaugurated the embassy.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley blamed Hamas for the border protests and the resulting deaths.

In a television interview circulated by Israeli government social media accounts, Hamas' Salah Bardawil says: "The latest round [Monday and Tuesday], 62 people were killed". No casualties were reported by either side.

Hamas' statement comes at a moment when Israel finds itself largely isolated over its response to the protests. No one was hurt by the gunfire.

"Rather, the violence comes from those who reject the existence of the state of Israel in any location". I'm not going to be able to list every single death of a journalist...

In fact, Al-Zahar seemed somewhat miffed that his interviewer suggested that the Gaza protests were "peaceful". Hamas is intentionally and cynically provoking this response.

"This is a peaceful resistance bolstered by a military force and by security agencies, and enjoying tremendous popular support", he said. Israel and Egypt, citing security concerns, maintain a de facto blockade on Gaza which has reduced its economy to a state of collapse. While Palestinians have been demanding their right to return to the areas they were expelled from in 1948 since March, about 104 of them have been reportedly killed by Israeli forces.

The protests, which have seen unsuccessful attempts to break through the fence, have dwindled since Monday, and the start of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan on Thursday may further dampen interest. "Take his word for it".

Many council members also re-emphasized their distance from the USA decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem and recognize it as Israel's capital.

Jerusalem's status is perhaps the thorniest issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the U.S. embassy relocation infuriated the Palestinians.
