There was no mention of first lady Melania Trump, the mother of his 12-year-old son Barron; or ex-wives Marla Maples (mother of Tiffany) or Ivana Trump (mother of Don Jr., Eric and Ivanka).

This marks Trump's 113th visit to one of his golf properties, Trump National Golf Club, since taking office - he's been in office for 478 days.

"This is one of the most important days of the year", the president said.

Vice President Mike Pence took out time to wish his mother and wife on Twitter.

Others compared Trump's Mother's Day message to Obama's Twitter post, where he uploaded an image of his whole family and gushed over his wife, Michelle.

In the video, Trump lauded his late mother, Mary MacLeod Trump, who was a Scottish immigrant, for being the reason for most of what he has achieved in life. "No mention of Melania, the mother of his child".

Donald Trump's plans for Mother's Day apparently don't include spending the afternoon with his wife.

Donald Trump's frequent golf trips have also drawn scrutiny, especially after Trump spent years attack Barack Obama for going golfing. Yes, in public, Donald and Melania still keep face, but, as you can see, they increasingly allow themselves to barbs against each other... "America's strength has come from the love and courage and devotion of our mothers".

"They helped us gain our independence", he continued. Through their grit, determination and incredible spirit, they pioneered the West and settled the frontier.

"So much of what I've done and so much of what I've become is because of my mother". During World War II, America's mothers helped build the greatest arsenal for democracy.

'I learned so much from my mother.

In the video message, President Trump discusses the roles of mothers in history and reflects on his own mom as kind, loving, smart and "tough when she had to be". I miss her a lot, ' Trump added.
