Five people were killed in the Delhi National Capital Region, including a woman who was killed in Greater Noida after a billboard fell on her while driving a scooter, also injuring her son. In Andhra Pradesh, eight persons died due to lightning and thunderstorm in Srikakulam district while in West Bengal, at least ten people died in storm related incidents while, one person died after wall collapsed. While, at least 10 huts caught fire due to lightning in Sanota village in Bulandshahr.

Apart from Uttar Pradesh, India's state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) said 12 deaths were reported in West Bengal, nine in Andhra Pradesh, three in Telangana and two in Delhi.

The southern state had also been hit by more than 40 000 lightning bolts on May 1, killing 14 people in a matter of hours.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: "Saddened by the loss of lives due to storms in some parts of the country". Condolences to those bereaved. Several goods trains were reportedly stranded, even as operations on other routes remained normal. "I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured".
