Kerala Businessman Arrested For Molesting Minor Girl In Theatre

The middle-aged man molesting the kid who was sitting near her mother can clearly be seen in the footages. Her statement will be recorded soon. In another incident, police at Payannur registered a case under the POCSO Act against a man, who allegedly tried to molest a nine-year old girl belonging to the nomadic community on May 10. He had a close relationship with the woman, who has now been arrested for her role in facilitating the girl's abuse by the businessman. Although the woman claimed that she was unaware of the crime, the police claim that she took her daughter to the theatre with the intention of exposing her to the abuse. The CCTV footage was handed over to police by childline authorities on April 28.

The police said, they arrested Moideen Kutty on Saturday night, after a Malayalam television channel aired CCTV visuals of the accused sexually abusing the child inside the theatre at nearby Edapal on 18th April. According to the employees of cinema hall, the police did not contact them until the TV channel ran the story. Police charged section 6 and 7 of POCSO act against him. The child has been shifted to a Nirbhaya Kendra, a children's home. The police is also contemplating to charge KG Baby under the POCSO Act, according to a report in Manorama. Childline officials and local activities have alleged that the police did not take the matter seriously and delayed action against the accused.

The Kerala police is being criticised for delaying investigation in the case. But they later on took a case as the incident turned into a controversy.

Kerala assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan said the case has shamed everyone and that it was a "serious lapse" on the part of police for failing to act soon after hearing about the abuse.

The Women's Commission chairperson MC Josephine visited the theatre and appreciated the owner for informing the issue to police.

Post the backlash, state minister of health and social welfare KK Shailaja has said that the police delay will be probed. "It is learnt that visuals provided by Childline shows fingering of the child by the accused".
