Cleveland Cavaliers won't discipline Rodney Hood for refusal to play
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Rodney Hood made a selfish decision to refuse to check into his team's Game 4 blowout win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday, but it does not sound like the immature act is going to cost him anything.
But he apparently had the chance to.
"When the Cavs called a timeout with a 30-point lead and 7:38 left Monday, Lue tried inserting Hood for James".
CLEVELAND-Rodney Hood's playoff problems now extend to off the court. "We're trying to win a championship", one anonymous Cavaliers player told Lloyd. "This isn't about you".
Hood spoke to team officials about the incident Tuesday and will not be disciplined, said the person who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
Hood "feels terrible", according to the source, and he plans to apologize to his teammates and coaching staff in person as soon as they get back together after a couple days off following a 4-0 sweep of the Raptors in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Hood, 25, has scored just 2 points over the Cavs' last five playoff games.
This refusal angered a number of his teammates, who tried to convince him into checking into the game, to no avail.
Hood only played seven minutes in the Cavs' Game 7 victory over in, and played a reduced role in the second round against Toronto.
With Hood set to become a restricted free agent this summer, it's easy to imagine why he might be frustrated with his diminished role in the Cavaliers system, but he has since apologized for his actions. Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman will reportedly meet with Hood in an attempt to get Hood's perspective on the matter. He has only reached double figures in scoring once, in Game 6 against the Indiana Pacers, and averaged just 11.5 minutes in the previous four games before Monday.
The Cavaliers acquired Hood from the Utah Jazz at the trade deadline as part of their midseason roster makeover.
