"It's been a wonderful 24 hours for me and the family", Warnock said.

Just last March, Etheridge and the Azkals pulled off the biggest achievement yet in Philippine football when the squad downed Tajikistan, 2-1, in the qualifiers to book the country's first ever slot in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. Etheridge was 25 and, when he signed for Walsall in the summer of 2015, he had far more worldwide caps to his name than league appearances.

As one of veteran manager and promotion specialist Neil Warnock's early summer signings, Etheridge truly made a mark in the team not tipped by many to achieve automatic promotion this season.

"The manager brought in players that were hungry and had a point to prove", Etheridge says. "They're proud of being Bluebirds again, the fans", Warnock added. Even if they lose the game they can be the promoted team.

An England schoolboy and Philippines worldwide, due to his mother, he nearly gave up on the dream four years...

For context, only the top two teams in the Championship are awarded automatic promotion to the Premier League, while the next four best teams battle for one spot in the promotion playoffs.
