In Tuesday's talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Abe urged him to return to peace talks with Israel and stressed the need to respond to any USA proposal, emphasizing the importance of Washington's role in the Middle East peace process.

He stressed the continued support of Japan for projects that contribute toward the building of Palestinian state institutions and infrastructure.

Abe and his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, met Wednesday and agreed to promote bilateral cooperation on issues related to defense, cybersecurity and the economy. He said Iran has preserved all its nuclear plans, and that a country which didn't want nuclear weapons wouldn't have prepared these plans, much less preserved them.

During the trip, Abe secured visits with leaders from both Israel and the Palestinian Authority, a rare feat for a foreign leader of a major economy.

Thousands of others have been injured - more than 140 seriously - over the same period, al-Qidra said.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to return to peace negotiations with Israel during their meeting in the Palestinian city of Ramallah on Tuesday night. "And also I am very happy to note that there has been the dramatic increase in the Japanese investment to Israel under my administration", he said.

Netanyahu also lauded "the tremendous growth in Japanese investments in Israel and Israeli investments in Japan".

Abe added that "I brought a business delegation from Japan to Israel, which includes so numerous CEO's from Japan, so I do hope that you'll have a productive discussion with the business leaders in the summit meetings that we are planning to have".

Abe told Netanyahu that Japan supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a reference to the coexistence of Israel and a future Palestinian state. He is accompanied by his wife and a delegation of senior Japanese business leaders.

PM Abe invited the prime minister to make a reciprocal visit to Japan in the coming year.
