US President Donald Trump and President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea in Washington, D.C., June 30, 2017.

President Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize by 18 House Republicans "in recognition of his work to end the Korean War, denuclearize the Korean peninsula and bring peace to the region".

The lawmakers hailed, in particular, Trump's spearheading of "one of the most successful worldwide sanctions regime in history" to prevent Pyongyang from advancing its ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.

"We can think of no one more deserving of the committee's recognition in 2019 than President Trump for his tireless work to bring peace to our world", the signatories conclude.

"It would have been unimaginable just a few weeks ago that the North Korean and South Korean leaders would even be talking let alone embracing in public", Messer said. The time and place of the critical summit will be announced soon.

First point of order would be to clarify that this is an absurd point and that the potential of peace to the region is in spite of Donald Trump's foreign policy jibes at North Korea.

Moon also always been a supporter of Trump's efforts to end the Korean crisis, stating Trump "deserves big credit for bringing about the inter-Korean talks" and "it could be a resulting work of the US -led sanctions and pressure". "I want to get peace".

Jenkins asked Nobel Peace Prize Committee Chair Berit Reiss-Anderson and the Norwegian Nobel Committee to consider Trump for the prize.

When Trump spoke about the breakthrough with North Korea during a rally in MI this weekend, the crowd began chanting, "Nobel, Nobel, Nobel".

Moon cited Trump's efforts to end the stand-off with North Korea over its nuclear weapons programme.

If Trump were to win the award, he'd be the fifth American president bestowed with the honor.

No matter what the likelihood is for Trump's getting a Nobel, his public image among South Koreans has been improving markedly as the mood on the Korean peninsula shifts from fears of war to hopes of peace.

Messer added, "If the Nobel Peace Prize means anything, President Trump should have a great shot at getting it".

Sceptics, however, say that Jong-un might be duping Jae-in and Trump into a false peace. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama are all Nobel winners. Former Vice President Al Gore also received the award.
