Tottenham on Monday moved closer to securing qualification for next season's Champions League as goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane gave them a 2-0 win over Watford.

The Lillywhites who were without a win in their last two league games had seen the lead between them and fifth-placed Chelsea reduced to two points following the Blues' 1-0 win against Swansea on Saturday. "It was important to get the three points as it allows us to be in a good position".

"We are in a very good situation. Of course, maybe, it wasn't a great performance, but Lloris in the goal showed fantastic skills and (showed) why he is one of the best keepers in the world", added Pochettino.

Spurs were indebted to goalkeeper Hugo Lloris who produced a string of impressive saves before and after Harry Kane doubled the Lilywhites advantage in the 48th minute.

"We need to prepare for the game that will be so physical and mental, hard to play and he will want to win there".

Victor Wanyama, meanwhile, has started just five Premier League games this season after a knee injury suffered in preseason and Pochettino will also hope to use preseason to try to restore the Kenyan to last season's levels, when he one of the most consistent midfielders in the country.

The 24-year-old was mocked by the FA Cup's official Twitter feed last week following Manchester United's semi-final win, something boss Pochettino called "embarrassing", and the England striker responded the only way he knows how by banging in his 27th league goal of the season.

Spurs nearly had a third in the 68th minute when Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen met a Trippier free kick but his header came back off the post, while Kane had an effort ruled offside and substitute Moussa Sissoko fired over from close range.

"Everything meant the atmosphere wasn't great to play, but I think the most important thing is to be in a good position in the table".

"They were free to play with no pressure because I think they are safe and they tried to play with freedom".

"I feel good", he said.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas thought Pochettino's side were tense and lacked the flow they were showing during the early part of the season.

"What more can I say?" You could feel their disappointment during the game. "To win the games and finish in the top four for the first time in a row would be great for the club". "He is chasing [Mohamed Salah] but the most important thing is to score goals for the team".
