Over the weekend Chelsea beat a well-organised Swansea side away from home, with Fabregas scoring the victor in the 1-0 win and cutting the gap to Spurs to two points.

"I would prefer to be in their position than in our position, so in the end it's up to us to keep winning everything but they obviously have the advantage because they are on top".

"The situation is not in our hands, but the only way to put a bit of pressure to Tottenham is to get three points in every game", said Conte.

However, Tottenham have a game in hand on Chelsea - they play Watford at Wembley on Monday night, live on Sky Sports Premier League - and Fabregas believes this gives them an advantage over his side.

"We were very good defensively and it's important for us to take three points with a good win".

So unless Spurs suffer a surprise collapse, it will be Chelsea and Liverpool battling for the remaining Champions League qualification place and the game at Stamford Bridge next week is going to be crucial.

"I think this season we are not clinical, but in the last period". You could see that with Swansea and it will be the same when Huddersfield come to Stamford Bridge. The reason I am here is to make sure we stay up and I am ready for any challenge'.

Cesc Fabregas says he had to wait for his landmark 50th Premier League goal because of the deeper role he has often played in for Chelsea.

But the Spain midfielder had not scored in the league since Chelsea's 2-0 home win against Everton in August.

"We started the game very well and dominated the game in the first half".

Swansea have recovered from being five points adrift at the bottom when Carvalhal took over in December and the former Sheffield Wednesday manager said his side have exceeded expectations already.

"I think today especially, because Fabregas was that little bit further forward and [Tiemoue] Bakayoko is still struggling for confidence, he really relished taking the responsibility on the ball, starting attacks".
