Gesicki Chosen in Second Round of 2018 NFL Draft

Gesicki had considered testing the National Football League draft waters after a junior season that saw him catch 48 balls for 679 yards for the 2016 Big Ten champions, but a conversation with Penn State coach James Franklin persuaded him to stay the course.

Gesicki joins former Nittany Lions Mike Hull, Jordan Lucas and Cameron Wake on the Dolphins roster.

Smythe is the 19th Notre Dame player selected in the top four rounds of the NFL Draft since 2012.

It was not out of the realm of possibility for Gesicki to declare for last year's draft, but he instead held off and led the Lions with 57 catches and nine touchdowns as a senior.

Gesicki is highest Penn State tight end selected in the NFL Draft since Kyle Brady was the 9th overall selection in 1995 by the New York Jets. Along with his work on offense, Ballage averaged 22.1 yards on 48 kickoff returns at Arizona State. While he's very fast in a straight line, he also has the lateral quickness to cover running backs and tight ends.

"I just kept my faith", Fitzpatrick said to ESPN in reference to Hurricane Irene, which struck his home in Old Bridge in 2011. In his college career, he's played like a third-down back.

Set the Penn State career receptions record for tight ends with his final catch vs. Pittsburgh, eclipsing Andrew Quarless' 87 grabs from 2006-09.

In four years with the Sun Devils, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Ballage had 450 carries for 1,984 yards and 27 rushing touchdowns. But he devoted his offseason to improving every aspect of his game and became one of the conference's top tight ends by his junior season. Gesicki isn't a stellar blocker, but he's a great receiving tight end with a high ceiling.

More than 6,100 new season tickets have already been sold for the 2018 season presented by PSECU.
