"And that is what the USA government is working for - to try to achieve the acknowledgment of the past".

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a traditional presidential statement issued every April 24, used the term "Meds Yeghern", an Armenian term meaning "great calamity", and once again avoided labeling the events as "genocide", just like his predecessor Barack Obama. "We would advise you to heed the words spoken by President Erdogan at the ceremony of remembrance of the Armenians", - said the press service of the Ministry. It was reportedly read in Armenian and Turkish.

Armenian national squad captain and Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has commemorated Armenian Genocide, on the 103rd anniversary of this tragedy. The U.S. House of Representatives adopted legislation on the Armenian Genocide in 1975, 1984 and 1996.

Thousands of people are taking part in annual Los Angeles marches commemorating the deaths of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians under the Ottoman Empire. Forty eight US states have recognized the Armenian Genocide through resolution or proclamation.

The statement also called on the Armenian community to not allow those "who are trying to ignite hatred and hostility by distorting [our] shared past", Daily Sabah reported.

Erdogan said Turkey in the future will continue to "share the pain and try to find solutions" to the problems of the country's ethnic Armenian citizens.

Trump acknowledged the efforts of former U.S. Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, Henry Morgenthau, in attempting to aid the Armenian people.

Many countries have recognized the Armenian Genocide: Uruguay is the first country that acknowledged the Genocide in 1965.

On this solemn day, we stand with the Armenian people throughout the world in honoring the memory of those lost and commit to work together to build a better future.
