Once Jets draft a quarterback, should he start Week 1? | Mailbag

Report: Saquon Barkley's agents don't want him going to Browns

There's always a shocker or two on National Football League draft night, but this would be a surprise.

Those looking to make the annual player selection party even more fun should consider wagering on any number of a multitude of draft-related props.

If the popular narrative that the Cleveland Browns will select either Sam Darnold or Josh Allen with the No. 1 overall draft pick next week is accurate, the choice is between two big-armed quarterbacks with lots of potential. I'm not banking on that happening - he's a flawless pick for either the Patriots or Eagles at the very end of Round 1 - but I also don't see any linebackers other than the four mentioned above getting picked in the first round. "One person I spoke with mentioned how many unintended consequences you'd face if you upended the draft in such a way (specifically in the far-fetched scenario in which they took two passers in the top four), but that he'd still thought about it plenty".

So to get a better sense of where group-think believes the Patriots are headed, we took a look at a slew of pundits who have already put out mocks within the last week or so. "If you have a great running back, he immediately makes your quarterback better, your offensive line better and your passing game". Your first pick has to set the tone. The most pro-ready quarerback in this year's class, Mayfield would push Teddy Bridgewater and Josh McCown to be the Jets' Week 1 starter. South Dakota State tight end Dallas Goedert is on the first-round bubble, with the New Orleans Saints reportedly interested in adding him.
