Who is Boston Marathon's Sarah Sellers? Ask Damian Lillard

On April 16, as runners from across the globe were braving freezing rain to run the Boston Marathon, and former Olympian Desi Linden was on her way to becoming the first American woman in 33 years to win the storied race, there was another determined American woman among the crowd.

Desiree Linden woke up Tuesday morning exhausted, exhilarated and a champion. She is originally from Chula Vista, Calif. "Kudos to them because everyone worked extremely hard to get here, and I feel like an outsider because its my second race, and I have no credentials", she said, "but they've all been so supportive and that was really cool". "This truly is the greatest marathon in the world". In the wet and windy conditions, Sellers wore a nondescript outfit, with no visible sponsors, and crossed the finish line by simply clicking the timer on her watch.

Congratulations to all of the local runners for participating and finishing the 2018 Boston Marathon.

Lisa Larsen Weidenbach's 1985 victory was the last for an American woman - before the race began offering prize money that lured the top global competitors to the world's oldest and most prestigious annual marathon. Later, she helped Molly Huddle reconnect with the group.

Yes, it's wonderful that an American woman won, but Boston prides itself on being an worldwide city that hosts a world-class race.

"I was taking it mile by mile out there. I knew she was in good shape because her workouts were going so well", Pilkington said in a statement.

"My brother Ryan, he chose to sign up for it last fall, so I thought it'd be cool to come out and run it", said Sellers.

"Probably 2011 is what put the fear in me", Linden said. "I'm just very glad that I made it".

Linden is a resident of Washington Township, Michigan but trains with the Rochester Hills-based Hansons-Brooks Distance Project.

"I was at one point so delirious I thought there must be some medical emergency with me because I'm running so slow but there's all these cars around me, I can't be winning", Linden said.

When Mary Shertenlieb crossed the finish line at 12:18 a.m., 13 hours after she started, she actually clocked in as the last person to complete the 2018 Boston Marathon.

When she gets home, she will be greeted with open arms and plenty of applause, but for now she's revelling in her victory.
