On her morning show, Lorraine Kelly also commented on the shocking news - explaining that she initially thought the announcement was a hoax.

"When he first moved in about three or four weeks ago I saw him, he was standing on his doorstep and I was tending to my plants".

Actor and comedian David Walliams said he was "heartbroken" to hear of Winton's death while fellow TV host Les Dennis described him as a "lovely, warm man who posed charm".

Kate Phillips, controller of entertainment commissioning at the BBC, said: "Dale was an immensely well-loved individual who brought a wonderfully unique and special energy to the many programmes he presented over the years". "He was a good guy and there wasn't another side to him".

"It is incredibly sad news that he is no longer with us. He was a joy to be with at all times", said Carol Vorderman. Though he kept the details of his condition from fans, the TV host did reveal he previously battled depression during a 2016 episode of the British talk show Loose Women.

Adil Ray added: "Very sad to hear of the passing of Presenter, Dale Winton". 62 is no age it's hard to believe he's gone. "RIP lovely man. Xx".

Celebrity chef James Martin also made sure to remember the entertainer.

He said: 'Dale was a friendly chap, he would acknowledge you no matter who you were, it is very sad. "Our thoughts are with his family and friends".

Winton became a household name with game shows such as Supermarket Sweep and National Lottery show In It To Win It. They are scheduled to air in June (18).

Dale released an autobiography in 2002, in which he came out as gay.
